http://www.civil.columbia.edu/em2002

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to notify you of an extension in the abstract deadline for EM2002. The deadline for the 1-page abstract will now be Monday, October 15. In light of the tragic events of Sept. 11 which distracted the whole country, and the fact that several sessions are still in the organizational stages, it seems appropriate to have an extension. Thanks
to all of you who have submitted punctually, we will begin the review process next week.

Session Organization - If you are still interested in organizing a technical session (there now is time!), please send a session proposal immediately to the appropriate Engineering Mechanics Division technical committee chair (a list of technical committee chairs is available at
http://www.civil.columbia.edu/emd/admin.html

Each session will consist of 5 presentations.

Note: For this conference, a rule of one paper presentation per registrant will be enforced. In other words, a participant may be a co-author of several papers, but may only present a single paper

Paper Submission Procedure - All 1-page abstract and final paper submissions will be done electronically. The abstract submission form is currently up and running. The abstracts will be reviewed, and upon acceptance a 4-8 page paper (extended abstract) should be submitted. The papers will be compiled into a CD-ROM proceedings only, and authors will retain the copyright for their papers, however the conference organizers
will retain the right to duplicate and provide the CD-ROM proceedings at a nominal charge after the conference date.

Important Dates:

Abstract Submission - October 15, 2001
Acceptance Notification, Registration Opens - November 30, 2001
